About MetaForClimate.eu

MetaForClimate.eu builds on the legacy of the original METAFOR Project (Metadata for Climate Modelling), an EU-funded initiative that developed a Common Information Model (CIM) to improve the way climate data is described, shared, and compared. While the original project ended in 2011, the importance of climate metadata and transparent data standards has only grown stronger.

Today, this site serves as a hub for exploring the intersection of climate science, digital innovation and sustainability. Our mission is to make complex topics—such as climate models, open data standards, AI-driven forecasting, and ESG reporting—accessible to researchers, policymakers, businesses, and anyone curious about the tools shaping our understanding of climate change.

Here you will find:

  • Explainers on climate models, metadata, and digital infrastructure
  • Updates on EU and global climate data initiatives
  • Insights into how technology—AI, blockchain, digital twins—is applied to climate research
  • Practical discussions on carbon reporting, ESG frameworks, and open data for businesses
  • Educational resources for students and newcomers to climate science

By honoring the roots of the METAFOR project while focusing on today’s urgent challenges, MetaForClimate.eu aims to connect scientific knowledge with practical action. Whether you’re a researcher, policy advisor, climate tech innovator, or just an engaged reader, this site is here to inform and inspire.

Together, we can turn climate data into climate action.
