CIM 2.0 Telecon: 03rd October 2011

This telecon was held to introduce and discuss the changes between CIM 1.5 and 1.9.1/2

Notes

  • Kristin gave overview of main changes between CIM 1.5 and 1.9.1
  • Main changes are in Activity & Process packages
  • Software merged into Process and Shared. Shared renamed Common.
  • Few changes to Data, Grids, Common, Quality - some changes to use ISO types
  • Grids package does not reflect ISO grid structure (but does reflext GridSpec?)
  • Dom has made some (mostly minor) changes to allow automated GML serialisation
  • GML serialisation is done using Fullmoon/HollowWorld? tools.
  • General opinion 'Observation' has too many connotations. Consider renaming M4A_Observation class to something more general - suggestions welcome!
  • Sophie interested in changes to XML, particularly CI_OnlineResource. Dom to outline differences.
  • Mark asked about JSON serialisation. It was not in scope for this version but in principle could be derived from the UML model (subject to further analysis...). See also email discussion about this.
  • Discussion about Domain Feature Catalogue and Mind Maps. There is still work to be done in moving this forward.
  • Question from Allyn(?) about Document stereotype. Document is not a permitted stereotype so has been replaced by attribute 'documentMetadata' that is on any classes that were previously Documents.
  • Question about Reference stereotype. In principle GML allows all properties to be inline or by reference unless one of them is explicitly disallowed. However this issue was left unresolved in 1.9.1 and needs picking up by the CIM 2 governance process.
  • Discussion about how best to (generally) document for non-UML audience. It is pretty complex to explain.
  • Discussion about how to submit comments. For now, until formal governance is in place, email metafor list and Dom will keep track in tickets.
