This is probably another duplicate but I want to make sure that it is a conscious decision that the use of input mods is limited to the description of how ensembles differ from each other. The reason I say this is that by way of contrast, model mods can be used both to describe how ensembles differ from each other and how a simulation modifies a model.

To put it another way, it is not possible to use an input mod to help describe how a simulation modifies a model.

Input mods are meant to allow one to modify the inputs which are defined on a simulation by simulation basis anyway, so it only makes sense to use them if you've got an ensemble, nicht wahr?

Model mods on the other hand, can be used to modify a base model for a specific simulation AND for modifying ensemble members.

So I think the status quo is correct. But then I would!
