Description (last modified by mariepierre) (diff)

• Gerry to contact Antonio and Marie-Pierre to create a downscaling controlled vocabulary mind map. This will be included in the CIM in the future. If this is done within 6 months it can feed back into a future revision of the CIM. Check with CLIMPACT, CERFACS and Princeton to make sure mind map is complete. Mathieu Vrac from LSCE/IPSL could be interested to give inputs as well.

Ticket Marie-Pierre, Cc Antonio, Michel, Sébastien and Mark Morgan so that he can follow while Sébastien is on leave.

  • Marie Pierre to circulate first draft from CERFACS inputs by end of June
  • Marie Pierre to organize DFN sessions with Antonio, Michel and anyone interested to fill the mindmap
  • Target first consistent draft by September (including all partners inputs)

A  wiki page is opened to present the Statistical Downscaling CV and to schedule the interviews of downsclaing experts.

Marie Pierre organized a telco to continue this process. A draft mindmap will be discuss there. The process is ongoing.

The agenda was : The proposed agenda is the following:

1- Brief introduction:

  • Why metadata for statistical downscaling? Towards the impacts community.
  • Technical: Using the Metafor CIM and deriving a special questionnaire from the CMIP5 one.
  • Restriction to "statistical" methods

2- Quick presentation of the draft mindmap containing an initial structured set of vocabulary.  http://metaforclimate.eu/trac/browser/controlled_vocabularies/trunk/Downscaling/StatisticalDownscaling.mm

3- General discussion:

  • Feasibility of a unique metadata content/structure (are the methods used by the impact community not too much "home-specific" to match a generic metadata structure?)
  • Does the useful information vary deeply according to the community of users?
  • Identify other issues.

Depending on the result of 3)... and if time,

4- Detailed discussion:

  • Criticism of the proposed mindmap: f.e. Is it relevant to adopt a classification into 3 (or more) method families (weather typing, weather generator, transfer functions)?
  • Try to agree on the most important metadata common to all the methods.

5- Decisions to be made during the discussion:

  • Go ahead with the current draft for statistical downscaling vocabulary or restart from scratch?
  • Do we need to collect other opinions/advices from impact study scientists; if yes, identify who?

Minutes of the first downscaling teco (June 22th) are  online.

Decision: the draft mindmap will be tested by trying to describe different downscaling method. (targeted time-line: september 1st, 2010).

Marie-Pierre is in charge to collect feedbacks (via e-mail, DFN,...).

Tasks are distributed as follows:

A few changes concerning the participation of Mathieu Vrac. I think there was a misunderstanding.

After Michel previous comment, the right task-table for downscaling CV is this one:

Currently we captured feedbacks from M. Deque and the CLIMPACT Team. I need to merge them before going on with the other downscaling people.

A  wiki page is opened to follow on the discussion and tasks.
